Chesapeake is rich in its cultural history, scenic natural wonders, delightful dining, and boutique shopping. From the many nature trails to hike and waterways to kayak – to getaways at campgrounds and a variety of restaurants to savor, there are many things to do in this coastal area.

What to Love

  • Close proximity to the ocean and many waterways
  • Campgrounds and nature trails
  • Suburban lifestyle
  • Shopping and dining for any taste

Local Lifestyle

Like much of the coastal Virginia area, Chesapeake is known for being the place where water and outdoor adventures are a huge deal for everyone. From boating and fishing to water sports and walking trails, there are many ways to enjoy the closeness to the many waterways and nature. There are a lot of leisure activities in the area in which one can get involved.
Chesapeake is the perfect place to kick back and fully enjoy life. It is the ideal mix of fun, nature, and business.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Chesapeake is home to several great dining, entertainment, and shopping options, no matter your interests and taste.
Many visitors and residents like to stop in for a nice drink at the Wasserhund Brewing Company. This is where you can pop in and get a locally brewed beer to enjoy. The flavors and options available to you at Wasserhund will be different from your standard brewery, so stop by when you have time to soak it all in and try something new!

For shopping, you can't beat Aimaleigh's Boutique. This women's clothing store and gift shop provides unique gifts you don't see anywhere else. It is a great place to pick up a few items for your loved ones and check things off your gift list for friends and loved ones.
The Chesapeake Golf Club is perfect for a nice round of golf with your friends. Make sure to take in the splendor of the course itself. It is surrounded by the natural beauty of the area.

Things to Do

Get into the excitement of local attractions and check out some of the events and activities in the Chesapeake area. For springtime fun, head to the Chesapeake Arboretum and enjoy the 48-acres that are dedicated to promoting horticultural and environmental awareness. While there, enjoy the Stewartia grove, which is only visible in the spring. And don’t forget your camera! This area includes one of Virginia’s finest trail systems that is part of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail South Chesapeake Loop.
To enjoy the outdoors, be sure to visit the Dismal Swamp Canal and Canal Trail. The Dismal Swamp Canal Trail is a multi-purpose trail for all bicyclists, joggers, and horse riders. This area also includes the Great Dismal Swamp Refuge, a resting spot for thousands of migratory birds in the spring and fall. Additionally, the Swamp is nationally recognized as a stop on the "Underground Railroad."

Also be sure to visit the Northwest River Park and Campground for a variety of family fun on this 763-acre park.

Chesapeake is home to many farms for family fun and activities. From May through September, there are almost 2,000 peach trees ready to pick at Mount Pleasant Farms as well as peaches and other fruits and vegetables at Greenbrier Farms. In the fall, gather friends and family for fun at Hickory Ridge Farm where you’ll find 18 acres of pumpkin patches, hayrides, a corn maze, and more, or return to Greenbrier Farms, for haunting attractions – if you’re brave enough!
For relaxed entertainment, try the Chesapeake Jubilee held at the Chesapeake City Park in late May. Another attraction to explore is the ever-popular Chesapeake Wine Festival held annually in early October. Sample some of the best wines from throughout the country and discover new flavors to take home.
